  • VoIP technology addresses modern needs by building on past knowledge.

VoIP:Connect

How does VoIP work?

Students learn about the new technology of voice-over-Internet—where it comes from, how it got here, and how it works for us!

In VoIP:Connect students explore the concept of phone calls—voice communications—over the Internet. They begin to understand how the growth of new technologies build on past knowledge, often use an existing infrastructure to meet new needs, and that changes, both technological and economic, require and drive these new innovations. VoIP (Voice over IP)—separating sound (voice) signals into digitized packets of information that can be routed over the Internet—becomes a case in point to promote students’ fundamental learning.

As students play the game and you employ the procedures in this instructional guide students come to understand the importance of past technological accomplishment, the merging of these accomplishments with the existing structure of the Internet, and the purposes—our needs—that are met by VoIP.
